Boys & Girls Clubs of the River Region
Our story is the River Region's story
From one Club for boys in Montgomery’s West End to three Clubs serving the whole River Region, our mission has stayed the same: give every young person a real shot at a great future.
Helping River Region youth learn, lead, and thrive.
BGCRR serves young people through programs built around Academic Success, Character and Leadership, and Health and Life Skills. Our goal is to provide trusted, affordable, high-quality experiences for families.
We believe every child deserves a safe place to learn, grow, give back, and build a bright future.
Our promise
- Safe spaces for youth
- Fun and purposeful programs
- Affordable registration options
- Trusted staff and community partnerships
To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
That mission was true in 1946 and it’s true today. It shapes every program we run, every staff member we hire, and every decision our Board makes. We measure ourselves not by how many kids walk through the door, but by who they become because they did.
Our promise
- A safe, structured environment every single day we're open
- Programs grounded in Academic Success, Character & Leadership, and Health & Life Skills
- Affordable access, regardless of a family's ability to pay full price
Nearly 80 years of great futures
Chartered by the Boys Clubs of America and opening its doors in 1946, our first Club served boys in what was then one of Montgomery's underserved neighborhoods, with an early focus on sports and recreation.
As need grew across Montgomery and surrounding communities, the organization expanded beyond a single facility to three Club sites: West End, Chisholm, and Mt. Meigs.
BGCRR now serves more than 1,100 youth ages 6-18 each year across our three locations, with programming rooted in Academic Success, Character & Leadership, and Health & Life Skills.
This website, and the renewed energy behind it, reflects our continued promise to River Region families: a safe, fun, affordable place for kids to grow, today and for the next 80 years.
Belonging first. Everything else follows.
Kids don’t grow because we tell them to. They grow because they feel like they belong somewhere, with adults who notice when they’re having a good day or a hard one. Every program we run, from homework help to basketball league, is really a vehicle for that relationship.
It’s why families keep coming back, and why so many of our staff and volunteers started out as members themselves.
Led by people who showed up for River Region kids first
Our staff and Board bring decades of combined experience in youth development, education, and community leadership.
